Yakın gelecek hakkında konuştuğumuz zaman, üç unsurdan oluşan bir kalıp kullanabiliriz:

Bu kalıp konuşma anından hemen sonraki bir zamanı belirtmek, ve eylemin veya olayın çok yakında gerçekleşeceğini vurgulamak için kullanılır. Eylemin yakınlığını vurgulamak için çoğu kez just sözcüğünü about sözcüğünden önce kullanırız.

Bu kalıp aynı zamanda to be fiilinin şimdiki zaman hali yerine geçmiş zaman halini kullanarak, bir eylemin yakında olacak olduğunu fakat kesintiye uğradığını belirtmek için de kullanılabilir. Bu kalıbı çoğu kez when ile başlayan bir yan cümle takip eder.
